No Comments Simplicity 2614 Review
I usually stick with sewing tote bags and other crafts that don’t have to fit me, but this spring break I really wanted to sew something (anything!) that I could actually wear.
Ages ago I attempted Simplicity 2614. I think it’s a very cute top!
I was inexperienced and I used the wrong fabric, cut it out incorrectly, and had no idea how to tissue fit. The whole thing was a wreck and WAY too big. I tossed the mess out and forgot about the pattern, but then after buying a copy of Fit for Real People I decided to give it another try. I am so glad I did! Here it is finished…
And here is the review…
Pattern Description: Misses’ pullover top with separate patterns included for A, B, C, D cup sizes
Pattern Sizing: 14-22
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, even for a beginner!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The sleeves are a little too puffy (could be the fabric I chose!), I had some trouble with the neck facing (could be user error!), and the bodice front seam was a little too high even though I used the pattern for my cup size.
Fabric Used: embroidered linen
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I had to increase the armhole depth and lengthen the sleeve band. I also left off the neck facing because it was too bulky.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Now that I’ve altered it to fit me I WILL be sewing another. This was an easy pattern to adjust for a beginner – it’s the first garment I’ve ever made that *really* fits me!
